Default Sump Removal

Anyone got any tips / tutorial on how to remove the sump.. i have just got a baffled sump and took a quick look today under the car... front bolts seem very easy, but there are two at the back which i dunno how your supposed to get to without removing the whole sub frame of the car....

Surely you don't have to remove the whole subframe??

Cheers

James

loosen engine mounts, jack up engine and use a small socket set with a universal joint on it, real pita but can be done, i know, i bought a rep engine only to find when i was under the car finishing it off i noticed the sump had a hole in it leaking oil slightly luckily i had not filled new engine with oil so had to swop it from my old engine.

damian.

Ah bloody hell

The engine mounts are on the under side of the engine connecting to the sub frame isnt it?

Where did you jack the engine up from? There isnt much space under there to jack it up.

you need to lift the engine using rope. nowhere to jack up.
you will also need to remove the one of the heat sheilds underneath.
its a pig of a job. getting the bolts out at the back is actually the easyiest bit.
flexy joint makes that bit easy.

i done one on a sport 2 year ago exactly same sump,
remove top engine mount bar (the one under the intercooler)
undo 2 bottom mounts
jack up via the front off the gearbox but take note and keep checking clearance at the top.this allows you to undo the back bolts just about.

it is tight and messy but can be done.
reseal with three bond 1215 or the likes of.
