Default fans not working on a classic sti v2

hi all,
i have a 95 v2 sti and the fans have stopped working, what do you think has failed and is there any way to bridge a sensor to make them work? like on the old cars, any help is much appreciated, thanks, phil.

Yes, if you check for CEL light error codes using the connectors underneath the steering column. The fans should come on too (if they're functioning correctly, that is), as part of the diagnostic sequence.

thanks, very helpful tip that, they came on whilst running through the checks, so what can be wrong now, why dont they come on on there own once above normal tempreture?

Well chances are it's the "thermostatic switch stuck in the open-circuit position."

Now I know the fans don't use a conventional stat sensor in the rad (hence the quote marks above ), but gets the signal from elsewhere. I'm assuming the coolant temp sensor provides this info to the ECU - so a dodgy CTS? Don't know TBH?

is the CTS the brown sensor on the alloy coolant pipe running from both heads, also has the temp sensor next to it?

Yes that's right, mate. The CTS is the larger of the two.

thanks very much, you helped me no end, ive ordered a new coolant temp sensor, it cant really be anything else, and at least i know the fans are ok, thanks to that clever little trick of yours, nice one mate.

Well, I think the CTS is the only sensor that relays coolant temp info to the ECU... so hopefully it will sort it...
