Question

I'm prepared to be bumped into Muppetland, but here goes...

I've just fitted a pukka Subaru boost gauge. No problem, except for the pain of trying to route the pipe through a grommet already filled with alarm wires. But I digress.

I haven't been out with it yet, but at tickover it reads -0.5 bar. Yes, minus.

When the engine is off it reads zero.

I'm *sure* I installed it correctly, taking the pressure feed from the rubber pipe just in front of the intercooler as it says in the instructions.

Is this normal?

Have I simply put it in wrong?

Help?

Hi,

That is fine... at idle the car is in vacum... no air is being forced into the engine....the engine is sucking air in if you like... and is creating vacum... i think..!!

And with the engine turned off the gauge should read '0' because of no pressure... +ve or -ve

Thanks Dan, that makes sense.

However, just in case, here's the pipe I connected it to:

Oh, and it's an MY01 WRX. Jut in case I didn't mention it before.

Hi,

I would probably use a different vac line off the inlet manifold somewhere... just incase it plays up with your dump valve....

And the possibility of incorrect readings on your boost gauge...

Am i correct in thinking that the pipe in your pic is to the dump valve.. Not familiar with the impreza engine yet....YET..!

There should be plenty of other places to take a feed from...

If not i cant imagine it causing real problems....

Thanks guys. You're *way* ahead of me on this.

FWIW, Dan, the Subaru manual refers to this as the fuel pressure regulator. Beats me as well - I thought it was the dump valve too.

Anyway, cheers again. I'll let you know if it works after I've gone out and given it a good seeing to tomorrow

Thumbs up

Well, it appears I did it right

I have just over .9 bar appearing when I hoof it. Which is, I guess, a Good Thing.

Now all I need is a Possumlink and we'll see what happens...
