Default Quick Question...

Hi all, as above.. If the top radiator hose gets hot and the bottom hose is flat cold, could this signify an air lock in the system?? 95 wrx. Just had new engine.

Yes, it could mean that.

I had a HG failure and the boost getting into the coolant gave exactly this symptom.

When the engine's up to temp, the top hose should be very hot (unpleasent to hold onto), and the bottom hose should be hot (or at least have significant warmth to it). If pretty much stone cold, then bound to be an airlock (for one reason or t'other).

What's your temp gauge doing?

hg failure is what im worried about. The hose on the top is hot as in you cant hold onto it tightly for too lon.

The bottom is flat cold.. The temp was holding at half way drove it around four miles and all seemed fine.
The engine does seem to warm up quick though and their seems to be alot of pressure in the system? Thanks for your help so far

Mine turned out to be thermostat sticking, although it was a new one. There is a speific way to top up the coolant because they do get air locks rather easily, to check for air in the system remove the rad cap and if the water is bubbling that would signify air in the system.
