Default best engine for 400+ bhp

Hi just after peoples thoughts on whats the best engine to be running a safe 400ish bhp.
Ive been reading a few threads and seen people either forging ej20 closed deck block or the ej25.
I would be probs using an md321 turbo with other mods of corse.
This is just an idea at the momet so any info or ideas welcome.
just a bit bored with the current power.
thanks

There are loads of options. You can either drop in the STi 8 engine & run 400 all day long, or you can go 2.1/2.5 etc. You can also run 400 on a standard EJ25.

If yours is a 1999 STi then your internals - it has a mass produced attempt at a set of "forged" pistons - are prob good enough (for a while at least) to run a MD321H, or the SC40 Billet! - mapped on V-Power (with all the usual supporting mods). This will see you knocking on the door of 400bhp, with great spool.

If the motor doesn't last, then get rebuilt with some proper forged pistons/rods and ACL bearings. If a WRX or UK car, then you'd need to do this, regardless. Perhaps move to 2.1 at this juncture for a decent hike in torque too.

'Box is another matter.....

For road use a 2.5 with decent pistons @ 400/400 will shred your gearbox.

IMHO

P.S. A V7+ STI motor at 400/360 ,may be less destructive....

I would definately fit a set of forged pistons to a stock EJ25 motor

tick tock tick tock ..... BOOM

2.5 lump will give much more torque - internals as has been described is a must for any decent longevity of the engine. 6 speed box as you've mentioned would have been the weak point
