Default Electric Windows not working.

Hi, My front electric windows have stopped working. One would drop on one side slightly when it was being lowered, this re-alligined back when lifting, but has since decided to stop re-alligining so ends up all crooked. Then for the icing on the cake the Drivers side stopped working all together. Pressing the up/down button lightly there seems to be a slight sound of electrical effort to move, but doenst budge at all if that makes sense. I havent pressed it into the automatic mode so I know I havent burnt out the motor if its stuck.

So where to start?

I was thinking of maybe taking the door cards off tmos and seeing what the issues might be. Are the 2001 cars prone for electric motor/mechanics failure?

Thanks for any help in advance.
Rob

Probably the wiper mechanisms on each side are goosed.
The mechanisms have an electric motor on them. Expensive from Subaru but 2nd hand about £10-£20 ea.
I have a n/s off a 99 classic if they are the same.
