Hi,

I was driving my STI V8 today and it decided to nearly stall in 2nd as I was pulling away from the lights, I managed to stop it from stalling however after it made a right loud tapping noise (not banging) under the bonnet

Pulled over to have a look under the bonnet, oil level fine, water fine no leaks just loud tapping noise (the noise was the same noise as if there was no oil in the engine).
Before pulling over I did notice it boosted fine just tapping loudly.

I decided to limp it home (3 miles) car drove fine no smoke still pulled fine until half a mile from home it decided to stall with little to no power and tapping was noise was still there (not any louder and no smoke)?

Turned everything off and towed it home, I did manage to turn it over on the drive for five secs but turned it straight off as I didnt want to damage anything else.

I have searched the forum and have sort of found it may be the bottom end?

Am I right, any ideas appreciated
