Just bought a sti impreza 1996, remapped and the boy left me with the fuel light on, and not knowing the town i was in, i had no choice but to put ordinary unleaded in.. this was ok'd by a mate u puts petrol into his scobby if hes in urgent need and also by another he wuld do the same in a glanza.. this was just to get me to the nearest petrol station that does super.. except when i got bk in a turned the key it wouldn go.. we tho it was the petrol so walked around, bought 3 5L jars and found super unleaded and put this into the car and tried again..still wouldnt go.. so got towed a bit to try and bump start it but nothing happened.. it seems like there not petrol getting to the engine.. i know ordinary petrol not a smart move but it should still start up and run.. does anybody have any answers? maybe the furl pump just went rite there and then or the alarm stopped the fuel pump putting the petrol to the engine.. im at a real loose end here please any help appreciated

 

turn the ignition key on and listen for the fuel pump. you should hear it prime.
it is not unreasonable to assume that running the car low on fuel has killed the pump if it was on its last legs. doubtful though.
running the car on 95 ron has not caused this problem.

could be fuel pump then. it should make a vvvrrrrrr noise when the key goes to position II.
