Default URGENT HELP NEEDED!! PLEAAASE!

Having the cam belt done on my type-r, just had phone call from the mechanic and he's saying to me that he's hearing noises and there is play in the following idlers and tensioner:

2 idlers that are smooth (no teeth)
1 idler with teeth
1 tensioner is worn but the piston is ok!

I have a very light understanding of what the problems are, but he has said to me that for him to get the parts im looking at £475!! The mechanic is a good friend and I am convinced he's not trying to skank me - hence the phone call to try and source the parts myself. He says he can put the cam belt on as is, but I could be looking at mega trouble in the future - and he doesnt really want to charge me again for the same labour later on down the line when i get the parts! To add insult to injury im goin on hol next weekend so i need to get these parts asap! Does anyone know where i can get these parts cheap and fast? Any help much appreciated!!

Idlers quite regularly need changing when the cambelt is replaced, as the grease inside the bearings dries out. Changing the belt without checking these may result in a premature (and exepensive) belt failure and consequental engine damage, so its a good thing he checked them.

Idlers are about £25 each (Blueprint OEM quality)

Tensioner about £80 (Blueprint OEM quality)

Belt about £60 for a Gates branded belt (Original)

These prices are from a local motor factors I use (Partco)

The rest is probably labour (about three hours, four if you remove the radiator, + costs for coolant if that is changed as well).

ok brilliant - already got the belt from GGR so thats part of the cost down - am i right in thinking that this is just a cam belt kit eg :Impreza STi Type R Gates Cam Timing Belt Kit V3 & V4 on eBay (end time 05-Apr-10 11:36:11 BST)?

If so could anyone reccoemned where to get from or even perhaps send us a link?

Yes its what would be normally called a "kit" But Subaru never supplied a full cambelt kit, so every part had to be orded seperately as and when needed (in addition to the belt).

Some aftermarket suppliers do sell everything grouped together to a form a kit though. So it amounts to the same thing.

i have used import car parts and had nothing but quality customer service, so you wont go wrong with them.
