can anyone help with this. i have the power steering assy of my v4 sti and i want to remove the pulley. just dont want to damage the pulley by sticking a bar through it to hold while untightening.
is there a trick i don't know?

It shouldn't actually be that tight on the shaft, they normally come off very easily. Might be worth spraying a little WD40/Rust Buster/etc on it after you've taken the nut off and then seeing what happens. If that doesn't do it. support the pulley on something and tap the end of the shaft gently with a piece of wood preventing thread damage and you should be able to get it off without much problem.
Oh you mean it's the actual pulley nut that's refusing to budge, or one of the three that holds the pump to the bracket?
If you mean the nut, the easy way to do a tight one is on the car, with the belt installed, and an impact gun.
If you mean one of the three bracket bolts, a little care can be necessary with them as they have a habit of corroding in situ and aren't particularly strong. I've sheared one in the past - needed to drill it out and helicoil the hole. If it's these I'd give WD40 or another penetrant as much opportunity as you can before putting the hurt on.
