Default MOT Emissions Time!!

Hello one and all i was wondering if any of you good fellows could point me in the right direction?

My Impreza failed its mot on emissisons now there is a surprise it was 0.48 instead of 0.3! it has a Full decat turbo back system 3'' i think it is (was on the car when i brought it)

Its a MY 98 UK Turbo 2000

now the thing is i need to find a cat to slip into the center section for the re test any ideas the best place to get one or am i better off getting a complete standard exhaust from a breakers if i can find one to fit at MOT time??

any help greatley appreciated

Might be more difficult to find as it's a 3" system.

Yeah the 3'' diameter is a problem might have to get a standard one and modify it just for the MOT ie cut and weld 3'' ends on to it??? would be cheaper than buying a 3'' cat?

Seems a pain for one use a year but her ho bloody emissions tests

i bet you could find a full original system for 30 quid!!
i have a clean twin pipe backbox but the centre cat has something rattling inside.

cant you buy a reducer ring thing to fit the original to the 3 " pipes ?

i have a 3 " back and centre on my standard downpipe, and it failed emissions but with certain imports you can change the test catergory which has wider tolerances to pass

i think you need downpipe and centre cat to pass i would have

Im hoping that i would not need two pieces as it was only just over without any

Might service it and change plugs first as well might help the car nadnt been run for 6 months prior to MOT so i guess i will need a bit of a clean up unfortunatley mine is not an import otherwise it would of gone through

im looking out for an original system that i can swap onto the car for the trip to and from the center once a year but i can not find one anywhere but i shall keep looking thanks as for reducer ring its prob easier to cut the ends off and enlarge them for the MOT

I believe if you remove the center cat, keep the down pipe cat and get a remap you will pass an MOT. Might even pass without but im not sure if a centre cat without a down pipe cat will pass.

Cats are quite expensive, if you have some money you could invest in a high flow sports cat down pipe and a remap and that will pass an MOT, that's what i've gathered from Scoobynet members. Or you could try your center cat idea or search about for a full system as mentioned. Other than that i'm out of ideas. Japspeed do cheap full cat exhaust systems.

Might have to look at the japspeed it a UK MY98 so a remap is not easy
i might have to search for a full original system or a sports cat to fit into the current set up come the Moment Of Truth¬

thanks for the helps its just annoying that it was so close without and the previous owner didnt give me the standard exhaust at the same time as promised but you live and learn eh

most should pass with a decat dp and centre cat that is nice and warm, mine does every year, the issue here is the size difference maybe the suggestion of a reducer pipes is a good one, as center cat is much easier to get to than the DP.

yes i work at a garage and they mot'd it for me alas they couldn't get it through

if it does come to the worst i do have a very friendly mot station that i know but i would rather get it through legally where they actually look at the car everything else is fine with the car so saftey is not an issue

What make of 3" system is it?
Jetex do a slip joint reducer to go down from 3" to 2.5" flange. Just add a std catted downpipe for the MOT.

not sure on the make it was on the car when i got it

i can't read the name on the top of the back box all i know is stainless straight through from the turbo de cat sound nice could be a janspeed by the name on the back but not sure?? it sounds like a reducer is the way to go its just a case of finding a second hand center cat now i can get a new one from flea bay for £130 ish shame i cant use one for a ford fiesta lol thats a lot cheaper as the car will never be driven on the car just tested and then it will be taken off
