Trouble code 45?? help needed please
Hi there, this is my first post on your site but i have visited many times to read your forums for help, up to now it has been alot of use so hopefully you will all be able to help again.....
i have a import 93 wrx with trouble code 45... i belive this is related to the map sensor, now having changed the map sensor the code is still showing and i cant seem to find any more information on what else could be causing this code... can anyone help advise on where to look please
thanks in advance

Welcome. Code 45 refers to the MAP sensor and the pressure source change solenoid. If you don't already know what this is (thanks to B13BAT for the image):
The PSCS is the gadget right at the top of the picture to the left of the green blob, connected via the pipe to the MAP sensor on the left.
Also before changing it make sure there's no obvious sign of chafing or breaks in the wiring loom around the boost control pack.

hi there,
thank you so far for your help.
yes we have re set the ecu after any changes and we have changed the map sensor and the pscs, their is no obvious signs of any damage to wires around the boost pack,
so what do i do next please?
thanks in advance

Are you absolutely 100% certain that the new sensor and solenoid you've fitted work properly?
If so, the next thing I would do would be to check the PSCS is functioning by connecting it directly to a 12 volt source and seeing if it clicks. Beyond that, probably time to check electrical continuity between the plugs in the engine bay and their counterparts in the ECU connectors.

we have had three map sensors on it, so i think i can safely say they cant all be broken.
we can test the pscs tomorrow but again we have had two of them on it so i would assume it works..but will check.
can you give me a bit more detail on how and where to check the electrical continuity..is it something i can do ?
we have had the ecu out and to some as it had a broken resistor on the board so that has been checked recently as well.
looking at the above picture i have noticed my car has a manual boost controller on it and the pipes on the boost control solenoid look to be set differently, could this be a factor, i have taken some pictures so could i upload them so it shows rather than me trying to explain.
i will get these uploaded in a bit.

does anybody have any ideas?
could anyone tell me a detailed desc (with pics preferably) of how the manual boost is supposed to be set up, so i can check it against mine?
is it worth taking it off and going back to standard?
the code is affecting the drive of the car so really want to get this sorted asap.
just not sure what the next step is?
thanks in advance

ok .. the mbc is now removed and the car is set back to standard as in the top pic in this thread and the bcs has also been changed but still have a cel and still have the problems in driving, am i right to think that my car is suffering boost cut?
as at the minute when under normal acceleration it drives fine, as soon as you attempt to drive a bit harder im getting a sort of "kangerooing" and popping sound (misfire??)
any ideas on where to go from here please?

This is yet another one of those cases where actually having hands on the problem would likely fix things a darn sight quicker than talking about it on a web forum.
This is (or should be) a moot point as far as your error is concerned. A manual boost controller will not cause the CEL.
Indeed it will be. If code 45 is active that means the ECU cannot measure atmospheric pressure, manifold absolute pressure or (by subtracting the former from the latter) boost pressure. It should be in full limp mode. Your car won't be suffering "boost cut" under this error condition as the ECU can't cut boost when it doesn't know what the current level of boost is. It should be operating on failsafe data which prevents your car going onto boost in the first place (as well as limiting revs).
The ways forward from here would be as I've already said. You need to check the electrical continuity between the connectors leading to the PSCS and MAP sensor and their opposite ends in the ECU loom, and if they check out, either check the function of the ECU or run a process of elimination by replacing it. What was the full context of this "broken resistor" that was fixed in the control unit itself? Is it possible something else is broken? Did this code 45 start as soon as you refitted the ECU, or...?
Possibly finding your nearest auto electrician or Subaru specialist.

i think my nearest subaru specialist is in sheffield and it is looking like thats where it could be heading.
the code 45 has been on before the ecu was taken out and the fault found with it. im not 100% sure what area of the ecu was damaged but the rest of it was checked at the same time and i was told is fine. whilst the ecu was out it had another put in to it to see if it made a difference and it was still showing code 45 whilst using the replacement ecu.
so from what you have said it would point to the electrical continuity
thanks for all your help
