Exclamation URGENT CLASSIC CRASH OPINIONS PLEASE

My 1998 uk turbo has been crash repaired in he past and i can't seem to fit the demon aftermarket bumper on, however when i bought it the original front bumper was sitting fine and it all looked straight after the repair. The damage repair isn't so pretty though it lookes pissed and terrible!!

I have re-painted the engine bay black, it was silver.
Is this car okay? my rebuild is nearly done and im worried the car isnt okay for the engine to go back in. the damage seems to be on the chassis legs before the suspension turrets so i think its all asthetic??

is there no way of correcting it. i wouldnt like to drive it as the car front end will be weak. and should anything ever happen in the future then there could be serious consequences.

That nearside leg looks high in the images, personally i would get it jigged to be sure eveything is in the right place.

Fck's sake. As has been said that car is undriveable and potentially dangerous in its current state. Has it passed an MOT like that? It shouldn't.

Damage to the chassis legs is not aesthetic by any definition, whether before or after the suspension turrets. Aside from anything else it suggests the shell has distorted and the gash "repair" alone is enough to suggest that it won't have been checked, let alone fixed.

You're right to be worried that the car isn't okay for the engine to go back in. It isn't. Was this "crash repair" carried out while car was under your ownership or beforehand?

who ever jigged that that and left the way it is wants slapping. the car as it is, is scrap unless you can get a decent body man to put 2 new front chassis legs on, as it is it is dangerous and will fold in half in even the lightest of accidents.

Well sounds like my worst nightmare has come true from what your all saying, no the accident was well before i owned the car.

I have dug deeper and found out it has had 7 prevvious owners and it was a category c damage on the 16-01-2004 and no record of a vic inspection whatever that is. Apparantly the cost to repair exceeded the value of the car at the time of the accident which doesn't suprise me.

Does anyone know of where i could find a jig in Kent or south east london?

i don't know of any body shops in London, your best bet would be to look for a decent shell and put all your parts into it.

While it's largely academic now, how many of those owners are there between your purchase of the car and the accident in 2004? It unfortunately looks as though the "repair" (if one can call it that) consisted of doing nothing more than making the car look cosmetically okay and flogging it off to the nearest unsuspecting purchaser. I don't know enough about vehicle regulation to know whether any offence was committed in the process but I wouldn't be too surprised.

Has it been through an MOT since the accident, and did if have a valid MOT on it when you bought if? If so I would be tempted to phone VOSA.

Any good bodyshop will have a jig - and you would need that damage to be professionally rectified. As 94WRX has already said though the most economical way forward given the scale of the damage would almost certainly be to transfer the running gear into an undamaged shell.
