Default Phase 2 engine fitting

Hello all.

Unfortunetly the big ends have gone on my MY98 uk terzo.

I think i've found a suitable replacement, only thing is it's a phase 2 engine but fitted into a 97 uk.

My question is this, Would it fit into my motor and what else would need to come with it for fitting into an earlier MY.

Thanks,

Craig

Cant see why it wont fit, only difference visually is :coil packs are slightly to the right on phase 2 oppsed to yours are in the centre, and recirc/dumpvalve bolted to intercooler on phase 2,and attached to the intercooler elbow on yours. You might want to consider fitting a 99/00 ecu as well.

You will probably need the wiring loom and the ecu as the phase 2 engine has some differences to your phase 1.5 (injectors scream out 440cc over 380cc).

Would it not be easier to swap all the ancillaries over as the block and heads will be the same?

Thanks peeps,

Looks like i'll be after the engine, ecu and the loom then.

If you think of anything else, please post up.

I'm going to look at it tomorrow and hear it running so i'll need to know by then.

Cheers

Thats what i thought but was informed the heads would need swapped as well.

Although if this is not the case it would make the swap over easier.

It will be a complete ball ache if you try and swap the long engine.

Your best bet is as above, just use the short block and then bolt on your heads.

If you don't you'll have problems with loom as the coil packs are different as is the ICV.

You may also have an issue with the speed sensor as the ealier one is cable driven and the later one is electronic.

easiest way is deffo use the short block and put all your old bits on that.

Cheers lads.

If using another short block and everthing off my engine what parts will need renewed ie gaskets, head bolts ect, and where can they all be sourced so i can have a rough idea of total cost.

Cheers

a set of head gaskets, id recommend multi shim metal. a good quality cam belt. change water pump while your at it. re use head bolts if there in good condition. new oil/filter.
a set of cam cover gaskets, inlet gaskets. should be about it.

check tensioners/idler pullys are okay and free of noise

id say max 250quid depending on tensioner

A 71deg Zero Sports stat would be complement the above sundries, too.
