Exclamation Ph.1.5/2 COILPACK QUESTION ???

Are the coilpacks for MY97/98 Ph.1.5 and MY99/00 Ph.2 engines the same?

I know that the Ph.1.5 is in the centre on the IM and the Ph.2 to the passenger side, etc., but are/do they work the same... or at least interchangeable, etc?

No they're not interchangeable.

Aside from being a different physical shape the phase 2 pack has an integral igniter (so the cabling runs direct from the driver transistor on the ECU to the pack). On Ph1.5 the igniter is separate.

You can reconfigure the loom to make one type of ECU drive the other type of pack, but a drop-in replacement they're not.

Thanks.
