Default Veriosn 5/6 sti from version 4?? ecu probs

Hi

After having a v4 engine in my impreza, for one reason an another i have now bought a version 5/6 engine. The plug that goes from the engine to the wiring loom on my v4 was a circulare fitment whilst in the version 5/6 engine it is a square fitment , does this mean i will need to fit the whole wiring loom and ecu from a version 5/6 or p1 or can i doctor my old one, also can the version 4 ecu run the version 5 engine?

Any help would be appreicated, also if any one has an version 5 ecu or wiring harness for sale please let me know or even the part number for the ecu

Thanks

You'll have more issues than just the engine wiring loom connecting to the car loom in the engine bay

The Idle Control Valve, Coilpack and Ignition amp are completely different components between the 2 model years of car.

Probably easier to make an adaptor plate and cut'n'shut your V4 inlet manifold to the V5 engine, than changing all the loom etc.

and cut and shut does not sound too clever mate , what fabrications are needed for version 4 manifold to version 5 block then?

Quite a bit. Depending on whether you try to adapt the version 4 manifold or meld the two together. There was another thread on here recently in which someone was hoping to have the centre part of a v4 manifold welded into the outer branches of a V5 one.

While it's doable it would require a considerable amount of machining and skilled welding to make it work.

To be honest the most realistic approach in your position would be to accept that buying the EJ207 engine was a mistake, cutting your losses and flogging it on as a functional unit than trying to bodge it into your car.
