Default any one on here a renault mechanic.

my mates car has got a fault with immobiliser.

car is renault clio. 2002, 1.2 16v.

it went in to have the exhaust done today (fix a fault with custom exhaust)

now when they went to start the car after it wouldnt start. if you try straight away as soon as you enter the key then it will try for 2 sec and then stop. and if you turn key to ignition point 2 and wait for 2 sec and then try it just wont start. i think its immobiliser issue. now im not asking for advice on how to turn it off on the net but if some one could at least point me in the right direction with what to check that would be great.

beer tokens avaliable

If theres a red led flashing like mad on the dash then thats the immobiliser mucking about.

only starting probs i really know of on these engines is the crank position sensor on the flywheel giving up, the result is that the engine will keep turning over but will not fire to life. Not exactly what your experiencing.

Unable to help with your problem but theres some info for you anyway.

common fault imobiliser on clios, 2 options the chip in key poss, or the actual box which i think is yr interior light comonly water gets through aerial and mucks box up, if was me i would take my key to a transponder shop and get them to test if chip still ok, hope this helps, you do have to lock and unlock yr car everytime you need to start even if youve left it open throughout day

Just had this with my mates car. Swapped the crank sensor to no avail. He found a firm online that supply a chip to plug in the diagnostic socket (£90) and it fired straight up. The other option is sending the ecu off to bypass the immobiliser either way you loose the immobiliser. If you want to keep it your looking at changing various bits of the system and key replacement and recoding which starts getting silly money.

theres a few places, Blue Streak Europe - Remanufacturing engine management systems, ABS units and air flow meters try them there pretty good usualy back on the road within a few days

"Renault Megane / Clio / Kangoo / Laguna fitted with Siemens Fenix V ECU can fail intermittently.

A manufacturing defect on the circuit board can cause the car to cut out intermittently. We can also decode these ECU's for immobiliser faults."
