Question Which turbo

Having my car mapped on thursday, MY2000 UK, front mount, fuel pump, hks induction, full de-cat

It's taken some work to get it to this point as the car had issues when i bought it, and we found that it had a td03 on it for some reason?? Everything is spot on now and ready for turbo and remap. I wasn't fussed about the turbo as i had a VF22 off my last scoob so an easy swap, trouble is the lad i left it with has "lost" it.

So to stop me rearranging his teeth he's buying me another one. The question is which one?

I can get another VF22 for £275. There's a few TD05 16g's on ebay for about the same money but i've heard a few people on here saying that they believe them to be made without genuine parts. So what do you lot think??.

I had a TD05 on my first scoob, i'm just not sure about these ebay ones. The vf does seem a bit steep but the lad has lost mine so he's paying lol. I wonder If anyone has owt for sale on here VF22 VF28 VF34/35 TD05 16g etc. I'll put another post up and see.

More opinions still welcome

Here's one on ebay SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STi TD05H Big-16G Turbocharger on eBay (end time 13-Mar-10 11:24:13 GMT)

Yeh I thought it sounded optimistic. I phoned the company to see if they would let me collect and it was a chinese sounding guy who said that would be ok but i'm worried it could be put together with **** parts and do damage. I've just put a thread up asking for a turbo and a link to this thread so hopefully someone will come up with something

Bloody hell that's mega cheap, is it in good nick (bearings, shaft movement etc). I bought a vf23 in the end from a member on here for £175 in tip top condition

Had a few offers of non genuine TD05's but i was advised against them by my mapper, but i'd rather have a genuine second hand unit than a non genuine new one TBH

Dont tottally discount ebay ,i bought a mint vf28 which had done 42k,in the pictures it looked in vgc.I drove to kent to pick it up ,and when i saw it, it looked 3x better than in the pictures, gave him £150 and was wheelspinning up the road before he had time to regain his senses.lol
Had it mapped 2 weeks ago on a 99 uk produced 325/320,dont spool as fast as the td04,but when it comes it is like being fired out of a gun.

Car fees great pulls all the way to the red line. Only got 306bhp/310ftlb?, dunno why as everything seemed ok on the day. I've known the place that mapped it for over 7 years and i think he left a bit of mechanical sympathy room
My older car that i used to have only pulled 301/300 but that felt more aggressive an saw off alot of bigger power cars, I suppose it's got alot to do with the overall setup. Very happy with my map though, spools up nice and stays strong .

Forgot to say that the whole setup from start to finish cost me £1500 which i think was very good. that included oils and a full cam kit/tensioner and labour.
From a car that was running like a bag of **** when i bought it

how come the mapper warned you off the td05 mate.. was it the just 16g or the td05's in general as i might be buying the 20g one very soon... can't go wrong with the vf23 though.. mines putting out 326bhp but after having that power for 6 months i want to go up another level and go for around 400bhp ish.. just enough so i don't blow my gearbox basically hehe

with 400/400 you will shred a 5 speed gearbox, unless of course, you drive like a granny. you have been warned. a genuine 400/400 also requires you to dip your hands into fairly deep pockets as far as other parts go.

Thats still pretty impressive mate, considering your car had 215 bhp,and the difference in how it drives is the main thing. - not number chasing, and like you say it might have made 330 bhp but at what risk ,best be safe than sorry imho - just enjoy

It wasn't the td05 he warned me off, it was the td05's not built using IHI parts. There seems to be loads of them knocking around. Better to stick to a genuine IHI turbo

i think the power u got is excellent with the mods u have said. is alot of money to get cars to this state from standard an at end of day there not many cars on the road that can keep up even in standard form. im very happy with mine mate. next thing is a gearbox oil change for me. can i ask a question. when u start up car from cold, does the car sound like it resonates bad through the exhaust system because full decat. sometimes i think mine is blowing somewhere.

No I haven't noticed any noise, sounds like you could have a minor blow somewhere.

id stick to what yours is putting out. every persons car is different. can fail at any bhp from standard form but if there was a limit tops wud be 340 to 350bhp but its the torque that kills
