Default Rusty Sump

My 03 WRX has been dripping a very small amount of oil. Finally got to the point I decided to find out why.

The sump is leaking through a rust bubble so needs replacing.

Is it possible to replace the sump with the engine in ? there looks to be a couple of screws at the back that look nigh on impossible to get to.

How much do I need to remove to lift the engine an inch or 2 ?

Not worked on the impreza at all (tinkering time normally spent on an MG Midget)

can be done yeah but bloody awkward, u need to undo the engine mounts and jack the engine up, then use a small universal joint socket set to get the bolts out, also u will need the correct sealer to seal the new one with can be had from dealer for about a tenner i think i paid, pita job with can be done with engine in.

Well my 3/8ths socket set doesn't get in there at all. Have to find a 1/4" set if I'm going to stand a chance. Its looks like there is one in the middle I can barely see at the moment.

How far can I lift the engine up without stressing something too much ?

Just to complete the thread. I had it replaced by ExtremeScoobies near Chelmsford with a second hand sump along with a few other bits and pieces etc.

Very happy with price and service

Sumps are pretty cheap anyway but good to see you have it all sorted now
