I want to fit a fmic to my 1995 wrx. How easy are they to fit and are there any guides knocking about?

its not that hard. i did mine on the street. took couple of hours.

 

might give it a go its just the weather. Gonna have a look for a cheap fmic now.

Fitting is fairly easy pal shouldnt take any longer than 3 hours, have you got abs if so this makes it a little harder as its in the way but if ya cut the abs packs side bracket off its fine.
and beware of the reall cheap fmic kits available on ebay as the piping on some of them is ****e and makes the job a whole lot harder

 

I never knew that fitting an FMIC took 2 or 3 hours. We sell Hybrid FMICs £270 for the GT and £290 for the GT2. Fitting is £185 inclusive of sundries. Now we fit these regularly and the workshop time with ramp, air tools and all facilities is upwards of six hours for one man who does this on a regular basis. Allow yourself a full weekend from Friday night to Sunday evening and ensure you have all the bits you might need/tools gathered up with you before you start.
You guys that can fit these in 2 or 3 hours - what make are you fitting ? and how often have you done this?

 

My mate fitted one to his wagon today took him 2 hours but the bumper was already off !

 

to be fair i have only fitted mine and helped a freind but mine i arrived at my garage where i have no ramps or air tools at 9am and by 12 i had the car running again and tht also included a few brews and a nip to the local shop to pick another coupler up.
this was an autobahn kit.
and to be honest i cant see why you would require ramps to fit one.
if you can get the car to me mate i will happily fit it for you for a small charge

 

I fitted mine in an afternoon on my driveway. The hardest part was cutting the bumper which I made a right c*nt of. My advice would be to give yourself a weekend to do it and take your time with the bumper.

About 6 hours min to do it properly

 

Fitting the FMIC isnt too bad, its removing the bumper, and specifically cutting and refitting the front bumper.

Get a fixed price, and give it to the man to do!

 

It takes us six hours with air tools on average and we do it several times some weeks and my advice to anyone doing it for the first time is to have all the parts available before you start and allow a whole weekend. There again we may be doing it wrong but to make a neat tidy job we take six hours and because of the work involved, drive in - drive out is never going to be less unless everything goes absolutely well.

 

I don't doubt your job will be top notch, but I did my 2nd a couple of weeks ago, using crap pipes and having to cut and shut them and fabricate intercooler brackets and it was a leisurely morning's work, involving a lot of *** breaks and idle moments.

What do you do that takes all the time? I mean this genuinely, perhaps you'd laugh your **** off when you see the standard of my work lol.

Tbh I was being polite. I'm an engineer and am know how good my work is

 

We don't fit crap pipes or have to make brackets because they are already supplied and it will look professional and close to factory fit when the job is done. The results from our Hybrid intercoolers and the quality of our fitting speak for themselves as numerous people can attest, many of whom have watched the installation process in the workshop.
