What sort of performance are you after mate? 2.5 is a good option depending on how far you'd like to go.

Thats the way. Im assuming you know the costs involved to reach your target unless you doing all the work yourself? 2.5 with forged pistons, rods & race bearings would make you a strong reliable block.

The engine in link is a OE short block with std suspect pistons.
For 400 hp get some drop in forged pistons, which Mark seems to be offering on the next block down, but with no price.

You can get that short motor through any Subaru main dealer part No 10103AB850 or 10103AB950 £1321.09 + vat.

that would be a good route the 2.1 if your loking for the 400 bhp 450bhp as but then so is the 2.5 i want one of these 2.1 myslef as i think 400-450 is just perfect for the road i ahve heard thou that the 2.5 will go through the gears quicker as you cant hold the revs as long but this is only what i have heard and i take it you have a six speed or you have a new age sti any way

Dependant on build, a 2.5 will rev as well as a 2ltr.

that's always the big question. now i am in no way knocking the OP, but it amazes me the number of people who come on here and say i want 400 or 450 hp and expect to expect to get it for £5 - 6K. to get a really good reliable car that has that much power requires a load of cash if you want it done right and don't want it breaking bits every week.

people think these cars are two a penny and movies like fast and furious and the quest for the "10 second" car compound the difficulty. if half these wee lads got into a fast car they would kack themselves at how fast they are. they have no conception of what is required and how much money and how much development time goes into building a project car with a lot of power.

sorry for the hijack guys.

Got my 2 ltr bugeye STi running at 416 bhp probably spent about 4.5k as parts have needed replacing and supporting sundries. Not been rebuilt to-date but am considering for next year as at 97k miles.

2.5 are great engines with the right turbo you don't have to forge it. A 2.5 in a classic with a 20g is perfect and enought to see off 80% of cars on the road. Not much will come any where near you. 450/450 in a classic can be a little twitchy on the road fun im the right hands with the right driver but horror movie for some one who is inexperienced. I went throught standard to stage one running 330 then 390 then 420 now - little over 500 in a classic. Have you had your car remapped maybe try that and see how you go from there.

It was unplanned man. Even i didnt know that i was going to turn up. Could'nt refuse a play against a 355 therefore i could not resist myself. I just wanted to see how long it would last & now i have seen how long it lasted. So next time someone like me turns around & asks me if a sti V4 gearbox can take 400+lbs...i will say no just like you did lol. It was a good experience though . My next experiment will be on a V5/6 sti box

What you doing this saturday coming? I've had inside information that some seriously boosted GT-R Skylines are paying the strip a visit . What do you say

It wasnt as big as usual but there was a good few high powered cars out. Totally chav freezone man . I done 3 runs & on the 3rd run in fourth gear. Going to change the box over shortly..

PPG will have to wait as im in 2 minds of getting another car.

wasting your time with 5 speed. you need a 6 speed full drive train, including half shafts and diffs.

Is this risky or will is still cope with the power being delivered?
