Im getting my 99 lump forged for 400 hp but looking at the Andyforrest web site there is not mention of forged internal at this level of tune im aware there is concern running these engines (mines a type R) at this level but are these people running 400 without forged internals ??
i have a 99 type r and was thinking of going towards the 400 mark but most people advise against it however on the andy forrest website it does say its possible in the meantime im booked into andys place for a remap to get to around 330

Are you building 3 cars . I was at Andy f today, done a superb job fitting +mapping simtek. I think 400bhp is ok on your eng. Depends how you drive it..
Standard rods are the weakness on classic engines. I certainly wouldn't be pushing them more than 350bhp.
Swap the rods and the Classic STI engine is good for 500bhp no problem with other supporting mods. Only the STI though as the rest have crappy cast pistons.
ps im i like to think im very mechanically sympathetic it does not spend a lot of time on high boost most of the time it running just over standard power on very low boost setting
can anybody suggest a good mapper in the south east area to get this done I already have front mount IC uprated turbo on the way think garett 550cc inj fuel pressure reg uprated clutch k&N etc ?
sorry me again any idea were i can get uprated rods fitted without total rebuild costs

So I may aswell get the pistons done at the same time found a set of piston and rods Manley i believe on ebay been told they are good but you get a fair bit of piston slap when cold

I have just bought some wiseco pistons and eagle rods got them from realstreetperformance in the states they were $780 plus shipping
If your doing the rods and pistons then you may as well upgrade your crank to the twin scroll unit which gives better oil feed to the bearings, but I'm with daz on this, 350bhp is the max you really want to push your engine with the standard rods if you want reliability.
