No, although all 99 and 00MY (inc your RB5) can be reflashed using ECUtek (or similar) but cannot be live mapped (and you used the word mapped, not flashed) like the 01My ECU onwards.

However as you have an RB5, the ECU is probably worth swapping with a stock 99MY turbo one, get that one flashed and sell the RB5 one for what should be more than you spent on its replacement.

As standard RB5s came with the same ECU as a MY99 UK Turbo 2000.

The WR Sport Performance Package which a lot of RB5s were sold with has an upgraded ECU (should have a pink STi label). This is the same ECU as the MY99 PPP.

You can still remap a wr sport ecu from an MY99 car, but as Andrew has stated, yes you can map the standard one.

hi yes i dont have an rb5 but a 98 prodrive wr sport.
was told i can swap the 3 plug ecu from a my99 into mine and then get that mapped.i havent checked that i have one of the prodrive ecu's.just theres a few on fleabay and wondered on the usability of a 99 one.

 

The ecu between a MY98 and an MY99 are not compatible, so buying a 99 one and trying to fit it to an my98 wont work.
The MY97/98 cars need an after market ecu fitted.
