Default Overtaking/Accel problems

Hi there,

I have a MY00 classic turbo2000. It is standard apart from backbox.

Ive had the engine check light come on every now and again, never at a set time. Sometime on start up, sometimes under heavy boost, sometimes cruising at 30. No pattern. Dealer has looked at it 3 times and cant find a problem.

I also get the Judder under accel ive read about others suffering. Mostly when dropping down a gear and pulling out to overtake (esp uphill), then the car just pulls, slows, pulls, slows, pulls, slows. Almost like it is being limited so the revs cant build or something. Bloody dangerous when trying a quick overtake, although if you then drop another gear seems to kick it back into accel.

Im not technically minded at all, but would like to be able to suggest some things for my local dealer to check as they dont seem to be able to sort it themselves!!

thanks

first thing is to check for fault codes, then check all the vacuum hoses and turbo pipes for boost leaks.

It could be the boost solenoid, look in the technical section, there should be a thread there on how to clean it

I dont know how to check the fault codes, but surely the dealers would have done this last time they checked the car? They keep telling me apart from a slight missfire at the very top of the revs they can find no problem. Of course whenever they test the car the problem i have doesnt happen for them because its not there all the time.

They are a fairly new dealership and i feel they dont have the full experience of the older model imprezas and the problems that occur, i dont really have anywhere else to take the car.

I don't know if it's the same on a MY'00 but on the older subarus checking the codes is a simple case of connecting the two small black plugs under the steering wheel and switching the ignition on (don't start the engine). Then it will flash regularly in 1 second intervals if there is no code. IF there are codes it will flash longer for 10s and shorter for 1s so a flash of long+long+short+short+short ( //... ) would be 23.
