engine checklight
hi peeps.just a quikie.on the way home from work last night i was accelerating (not thrashing but firmly) down a slip road,i turned my head back from looking behind to find a gap and just caught the engine check light flash 2/3 times.there wasnt a pattern to it as i only just caught it in my eye.
i backed off but the engine still sounded sweet so for the next 2 miles i tried to replicate the conditions but all seemed good.when i got home i plugged in the connectors but only got the fan cycle and a constant flash of the light.am i right in thinking a constant flash means no fault codes stored??
if so what could have caused this temporary flash when driving? my01,bug.uk wrx, basic mods,80k on clock.thanks guys.

plug in the two green plugs hanging under the steering column, its a bit of a bugger sometimes to get to them, then turn ignition on so dash lights up,then your light will flash in a particular pattern ie-3 long flashes + 2 short flashes.this pattern(fault code) will cycle over and over until you turn ignition off.note tho that you may have more than one code show up.when you have that code post your results on here and someone will tell you what is wrong bud!

i think this sounds like the same thing that happened to mine.. put foot down and engine management light came on at 6k rpm.
stays on permenantly now. checked code. it says poo31 ho2s heater control circuit low bank sensor 1.
cleared code and it came back on within 5 mins..
stays on now.. what could this be.. lamda probe covered in soot? its a decatted 02 bugeye.. drives perfect, no different..

Well, if your engine light is on, it's because it's sensed a sensor 'issue'. You need to do a fault code check to see what's up. Normally you would have to replace the offending sensor, do a reset and the CEL should be gone. But you can do a reset regardless and, hopefully, if it's an only an erroneous CEL, then it may just extinguish and not come back............

thats sods law that is.as the thread start explained i had a flash of my cel and not had it since.
until today that is!!!i now have the same prob as adam in that the light is on permanently after a little spirited run as id done the last time it came on.
however i think i know what is causing it.im sure i can hear a little blow/chuff from up-pipe to turbo or maybe turbo to down pipe.not sure exactly as space to hear it is limited.im for the up-pipe.this then gives my lambda a false reading and throws a cel.does this sound logical???
would this be a cause for great concern as i need to use the car daily until i book a day off to do it (soon).oh and disconnecting the battery didnt reset the cel!! help appreciated

i tried the disconecting the battery thing aswell didnt work for me eather. what you said makes sence to me mate i had just changed the gasket on my down pipe just before the light come on now i think about it, never even occured to me till now so think i might pull the lambda out and give it a clean see if it makes a difference. best of luck with yours let me know how you get on.

For what its worth, I am having a similar problem, certainly blowing just below the turbo and the CEL on.
