owned my wrx 97 classic for two weeks shes always been hard to start first thing in the morning so thought it was the temp sensor as a previous scoob had the same..

well changed that today and still no joy shes turning over but wont fire into life...

had the aa out and still dont know help please

mine was the same when i first had it, changed the maf and had to fix down the inlet manifold better as it was loose from before i had it, haven't had a problem since, hope yours is as easy mate.

came up fault 22 knock sensor so would this prevent the car from starting

Don't know.

Perhaps the knock sensor is so knackered and out of spec, that it's detecting cranking as det, and perhaps 'instructing' the ECU not to even fire!?!?!

Otherwise I'd lay the blame at the feet of the crank sensor (as that tells the ECU when to tell the injectors to add fuel and spark the plugs!...)

My check engine light comes on and the code reads knock sensor and needs replacing however it hasn't stopped the car from running. My youngest sorts mine out he works for a garage in Shrivenham and is in his last year at Swindon college.

unsure of how old the plugs are...if its coming up fault code 22 would it be the plugs???

joz car was starting but would take a few goes then just stopped so would the knock sensor do that...

i was thinking crank ssensor as i changed the coolant temp sensor and still no joy

Oh right - defo feel better about the knock sensor being the culprit now (seeeing as it actually starts).

I'd check and regap the plugs first. If that don't help (which I'm sure it won't, but it's free to do) then yeah, replace the KS. Then seeing as you've done the CTS, the other thing would be crank sensor.

Also I think the NPS and TPS and cam sensor(?) can cause starting issues???

But do 'as the ECU says' and replace KS before any other sensor......

got the right knock sensor and bought a crank sensor just fitted both now just waiting to reset ecu

The ISCV on the IM? You can clean them out and adjust them - try that first....

Connect only the blacks together for fault code finding:-

Don't know what your additional 2 black ones are for.
