newbie question about ppp
hi guys heres a question id really like answering.
Going to pick up my 2001 wrx ppp (certified 2005) in a few weeks from wales but have been told by a local subaru specialist that i should take off all the ppp and start from scratch with a decent exhaust, panel filter and remap which will push it to around 320 bhp ish or more which he says is much better than the ppp which is putting out 265bhp!
is this good advice and if so how much should i sell my ppp with cert for ???????

The std turbo wont make more than 300bhp - more like 280-290.
The PPP (with gems daughterboard) ecu on that year has a value second hand so you could sell and start modding yourself. Decent decat exhaust (or sports cat), panel filter and remap (and prob fuel pump too) will see it far better performance wise than the PPP.

I assume you had a test drive? If it was good enough to buy, why not leave it for now and see how you get on. PPP is a decent package IMO, especially if you don't want the hassle of MOT/road legality issues. On your std turbo you could expect 270-280 bhp from a more agressive map along with decat/sportscat. Not worth the cost for a further 10-15 bhp IMO.
If you want 320, it is achievable with a VF35 turbo along with supporting mods, but IMO you should cancel your order and buy an STi instead.

To be honest never owned a subaru before so not sure what to expect have only ever driven a focus st with anything near to that power. And to be honest no i havent test drove it saw it on internet at a garage and paid deposit.
Woah - You bought an Impreza without seeing/test driving it?

There are literally hundreds of cars out there for sale - some genuine, and others not so genuine. - You're taking one hell of a risk buying it blind, IMO
I had an 02 Focus ST before my RB5, and never even driven a Subaru before I bought mine, but it was all I ever wanted, so got it. You will be amazed by the power difference between the two cars!
I've got PPP on my RB5, which I've had for nearly 2 years. I've been reliably informed that it is hard ( not impossible but not worth the effort) to re-map the Prodrive ECU. If I wanted to do mine, I would need to get a standard ECU and get that re-mapped.
I'm not sure you could sell your PPP with cert, I think the cert would be for Prodrive to fit the actual stuff to the car, like my Prodrive Certificate - I suspect it would be useless once removed from the car.
Either keep the PPP and by happy with it, or get a standard car and mod it. I'm happy to leave my RB standard with factory fitted PPP, than mod it.
Up to you, but that's what I would do.
