I think you'll find its the wastegate rattling. Do you had a TD turbo?

Take the tiny circlip off the actuator arm, and screw the arm half a turn, to make the waste gate press slightly tighter when closed.

Be aware that tightening the actuator arm WILL change the boost level that your turbo runs, especially it's initial peak level

If the actuator penny is actually loose against the exhaust housing (and therefore not sealing) you may see a substantial increase in boost level when tightening the arm.

Tightening the arm may only be a temporary solution. - I've seen the rod that runs through the exhaust housing bend and break, The welds that hold the arm to the top of the rod can also break.

If your actutator penny is loose now, i would recommend that you investigate it further, rather than just tightening up the preload in the arm

its been mapped to run 1.1 just to cure the poxy rattle, boost increase will be a side efect :-( map tweak last think i need more money.

2nd question if the welds did snap i wud loose alll boost woud any damage be done.

also can you buy this par or is it a whole new turbo unit

the penny has a pressed washer on it to hold it on , tightening the preload would not really affect it too much if done correctly as the function is in the actuator housing itself and not the arm or the penny u could tighten the actuator too much and u would get part throtle full boost ptfb can cause other problems if ur car is mapped then basically take the actuator arm off and press the lever towards the front of the turbo tightly and set the arm so it JUST holds it tight and no moreu should have to pull the arm about 1mm to 2mm to get it to sit over the arm

I agree about it can change the boost level. But in fairness, I did it to mine (half a turn) and it didn't change my peak boost, although it could have slightly affected it.

spoke to the mapper JGM had been a huge hel had advised me to make the arm shorter and check what boost it makes, i have an apexi fc so i will lower the boos just to make sure im all safe and if it makes more boost a map tweak will be needed thank you to all above for your input will let you know how it goes when i make adjustments Saturday

I had a slighy metalic clicking noise which sounded like something engaging (simular noise to when you select reverse gear) coming from the TD04 when reving from idle to 1300rpm ish (littleraly just dabbing the peddal)

However the Turbo amongst many other things was being replaced. The TD04 wasnt smoking and upon removing there was no play in the shaft, so i had to assume it was the actuator "the sound was definatly coming from the Turbo area".

Now with everthing being replaced & disrupted, ie heatshield removed for the new up pipe, downpipe, VF30 etc etc it would be difficult to say it definatly WAS the turbo unit as the sound is no longer there... HTH.
