Gearbox??
Hi guys,
Hi have a type R running on a version 3 STI engine and wiring loom and a version 5 type R box (TY754). The DCCD is disconnected as the standard version 3 loom and ecu did not support it. I got the gearbox from the UK. It had a few issues which i had to sort out - reverse was not engaging among other things. Anyway i got it sorted and fitted the box in the car and it ran fine for about 3 weeks and there is now a grinding/grating noise coming from it. It does not sound high pitched like the whine from worn bearings.
Mind you i removed the open center diff unit from this type R box and replaced it with a viscous center diff from a STI version 3 box seeing that i would not be able to use the DCCD anyway.
Could it be that this viscous center diff is knackered as it is not an original part of the box? And hence would i be better off just sticking with the open center diff even if i cant use the dccd fuction and will have to drive the car with the diff fully open all the time - unless i get an independent center diff controller of course?
The box and the rear diff are both 4.44 ratio.
Thanks,
Imran
