Default What's the cure for 'bore wash'?

I recently fitted a fuel pump & fuel filter from a slightly older Leggy & all went well, for a while. She wouldn't start 1 afternoon, having been out earlier in the day. Turned over ok but no firing. Had to leave it over holidays with local garage. He checked compression & there wasn't any. 2-4bar on 3 cly, 6-8bar on 4th. Plugs looked gunky so fitted new. Belts, timing, fuel all ok.
no evidence of leaks, but i had a bit overfilled on engine oil.
I've been reading a bit about bore-wash from overfueling which is possible considering diff fuel pump&filter.
Could someone tell me a bit more about BW & how to 'cure' it?
Can this cause long term damage? She has done less than 80k.
Advice appreciated.

Can you not fit an adjustable fuel pressure regulator instead of trying to source a fuel pump - probably pick up a good used FPR for less than a new fuel pump tbh.

nice idea Mick but they all seem to be for fuel injection systems.
what i need is to find someone breaking a 1st Gen Legacy '89 Carb.
Although mine was registered in '91, the engine is from 89 or b4 & is fitted with a carburetor.
thanks anyway, i'll keep looking
