on my classic, i just twisted them about a bit, and had to pull them very hard to get them to pop out
broke one at the electrical connection - but i was fitting bigger ones so didnt really matter

Think i ended up using a set of carpenters pliers from B&Q after a similar issue removing mine, carefull with those spacers when refitting them though their a royal pain in the **** to fit
