POWER LOSS

hi can any 1 help please i hav a 2001 bugeye when i put my foot down my car will take of but wen it gets te 4000rpm ther is a flat spot when it reaches 5000 rpm the power surges back...cud any 1 please help me...basically my car has a flat spot between 4000-5000 rpm..please any help
