Default Knocking noise coming from rear when turning slowly

Hi guys,

I wonder if you can offer me some advice? I have a 2005 STi Type UK and I've noticed that it makes a knocking sound from the rear of the car when I'm turning. I can only really hear it when turning slowly and it seems to be louder when I have more people in the car (sat in the back).

The sound is definitely a repeated knocking sound, not a grinding noise or anything like that.

The car has only done 22,000 miles.

Any thoughts on what this could be would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Could be the dreaded knocking shocks mate, had it with my 03 sti something to do with the dampers. Apart from stripping them down and giving them a good lube it will be new rear struts. Sure somebody else on the forum could add to that. If your rear struts are red it's the same color that went **** for me.

Hope you get it sorted mate -)

Could be your shocks but you would notice that all the time I would have thought, or it could be your a-dccd, but either way its worth a visit to a dealer/decent speciallist to see what it is (the diff will whine on slow manouvers, and you didn't say how long you have owned the car?)

May just be a loose drop link on rear roll bar, nut only has to be slightly loose to make quite a lot of noise. Try to wiggle them about on a level surface, must be level or there will be a load on the links which will disguise play.

Well, it's usually quite a faint knock when I'm on my own in the car. Sort of can only hear it because I know it's there. It's louder when I have others in the car.

I've not noticed any sort of whining noise.

I've owned it for a few months now.

If it's the diff, is there anywhere I can send the diff for repair or get buy a reconditioned one from? I think a new one from Subaru is around the £3000 mark. :-/

Hoping to get it looked at this weekend, but was hoping for an early diagnosis to gauge how much it might cost. :-(
