Default Sport - CEL

Missus's 1999 Sport had the CEL come on this morning and apparantly the engine sounded rough. The light then went out and the car sounded fine.

Question: Does the Sport ecu record what went wrong? And is the 99 facelift bumper version the 2 green + 2 black wire affair or does it connect to a scanner like the later classic turbo's? (my 1995 WRX uses the wires).

Sorry to sound daft but all I have to go on is what she said over the phone this morning and it will be dark when I get home. I don't fancy searching upside down in the drivers footwell by torchlight for 4 wires that may well not be there!!

It would have both, although use of the OBD port is limited to certain machines.
