I have a slight issue with my UK PPP MY99 sometime when selecting 3rd gear it snicks a little i'm not saying it crunches as its never crunched but just sometimes it just gives a little snick is this normal and nothing to worry about or is it gonna be a growing issue like the synchro getting weak

 

What exactly is a "snick"? If you mean a little bit of grind like you haven't got the clutch down properly, then either you're beating the synchro or, yes, it's starting to wear. Gear oil choice can improve that kind of subtle issue.

 

Its not a crunch but it sometimes does'nt seem as smooth a change and feels like its gonna crunch, what gear oil could i upgrade to

 

For that question to have any sensible context (and answer), it'd be better if you told us what's in it at the moment.

 

Its been dealer serviced all its life about 19 stamps and 76k miles all done at a dealer

 

Try Redline Heavy shockproof 75W90 - excellent for problem gearboxes but cannot be mixed with normal gear oil!! Takes a week or two to do it's thing but once it does....no more snick and will extend the life of your box. you'll need 4 quarts.

My newage 2nd-3rd was crunching badly many moons ago and after a couple of weeks or so the crunch went. Suffice to say my 3rd gear has taken a lot of abuse from an engine way more potent than the box was meant to be mated to and only recently did i need to change the box due to 3rd gear finally going bang after a year and a half since putting the oil in, but the box still gave me 1-2 & 4-5.

It lasted way longer than it should thanks to the Redline.

 

Thanks for this info mate, i see it quite pricey stuff but in the USA its $10.95 dollers per quart about £6.50 but typical over here charge us fecking mugs £20 per quart
