I see that these are removable, is there any benefit to removing them ie: cooling, colder air going into the K&N filter i have on mine.
Or do you need to have these on all the time to stop water getting in to the engine bay?
Any help would be appreciated.

These are cosmetic, only used on the grp A rally cars, and their engine layout is completely different to the one you see every day
No benefit from removing them, it can in fact cause problems (water ingress to sensitive electrical parts).

What about if one is running an induction filter and the vent is replaced with one of those mini scoops that direct air onto the filter when on the go? Not advisable??
I understand about water getting in while its raining but if you just take it easy if its raining and only boot it when its a dry day, will that be ok?

Try it and see - if it runs like poo, then revert back. Simples.
Yeah, when the covers are in place, the air travels quickly out past the gearbox and away under the car.
When removed however, the underbonnet temps actually RISE a bit, as their absence stalls this otherwise fast-moving air stream.
So prob best keeping the covers in place then.
+1
I can't abide them - look awful (in my opinion obviously).
