Weak injector? Could be the cause of the original failure

Not mapped most likely.
If it were a JDM engine you would have either a VF36 or most likely a VF37 turbo, you would need a new exhaust system as the downpipe is different due to the different sumps on the JDM 2ltr twin scroll cars, plus it would sound different, twin scroll cars have equal length headers but if its just been put in and from an 05 JDM, I would be worried.

PO171 could also be a faulty Lambda sensor.

You're right, of course, but in the circumstances it's probably more likely that, if this is/was a JDM spec engine, it's had the old UK exhaust manifold and turbo fitted - unless of course the OP knows he's had the matching new downpipe etc etc.

So you replaced the manifold and exhaust plus the turbo onto a twin scroll JDM engine?
Ah well if you have not had it remapped then you will still have issues, even with all the bits you have changed over, this engine is 80% different to the one you replaced it with.
Of course if you have not replaced the manifold/sump/downpipe off the JDM engine then its not an 05 JDM twin scroll engine to start with
