Default No power at Lower revs

I've just recently purchased a 04 wrx scooby and the car is wicked! Im lovin it apart from that it seems there is a lack of power under 3000 revs. IS there anything I can do or purchase to improve this?????

sounds like turbo lag to me, but it could be a mapping fault. is it standard or modified?

Thanks for responding - it's totally standard as far as I can see. I've only had the car about a month and purchased it with about 34000 miles on. It does take off at about 3000 revs but kinda sluggish before that. Are the turbo's constantly on or do they kick in about 3000??

What car did you have before?

Your WRX has 225bhp std... BUT it does weigh a fair bit, so not the greatest power/weight (despite the low-spooling, small TD04 turbo).

It could just be that's all it is...

Yeah, the small TD04 turbo will start moving meaningful air from about 2500-2700rpm, so by 3000rpm it should be on full boost. That's actually GOOD though!

As said, the car's weight will be blunting the initial response.

I'm sure everything is how it should be. Enjoy...

I had a 172 sport before which seems to have a bit more poke at lower revs. Proabaly just me getting used to the bigger car etc. Great car though - am loving the 3000rpm take off!

172 was only 1060kg and 170bhp... So 163bhp/tonne.

I think your 2004 WRX is 1361kg and 227bhp... 169bhp/tonne.

So all but the same.

However, the normally aspirated Clio's relative lack of weight/inertia will give that spritely, 'dog straining at the leash' feeling. But the WRX, when on boost from 3000rpm, will feel 'fat' on effortless torque... which is what you've experienced/are experiencing!

Every scoob I owned had this issue. Whilst I did the usual decats which helped lower spool points, it never solved it. The untimate cure woukld be to convert it to a supercharger or fit anti-lag, but I thought better of it (and the cost ).

I solved the issue by selling it and having a Golf R32 instead

So Ali, are you no longer a Scoob owner, then?
