What MY Wagon? What sort of power/torque are you after?

If you can answer these 2 then we can give advice so you don't overspend/buy inappropriate gear, etc....

TD05 16g is capable 350bhp if pushed. You'll should be able to get that with a FMIC, decent cone filter and a remap, so long as you also bung in a Walbro 255 pump and 550cc injectors. 440cc ones might do it but IDC will be getting a bit much. A set of NGK PFR7B plugs would be wise too.

You'd need to map on V-Power or Tesco 99, to stand any chance of getting near 350bhp.

Whatever, you'll get well over 320+

Oops, don't forget a decat downpipe (or at least a high-flow 100-cell sports cat), and a mappable ECU (unless you have a MY99>on)...

Ignoring turbo...

- New Hybrid FMIC kit £350
- 2nd hand 550cc injectors £200+
- I.K. kit £50+
- New Walbro £70
- ECU/remap £600+

Without any fitting costs, you're looking at at least £1300 in the parts/remap...

TD04's do spool early but you pretty much can only get 280bhp out of them. A PP chip (if MY93-96)... or a Dawes Device/AFR check will be all that's required to get that from it (so don't have to spend out on all the supporting mods listed above).

But if that's all the OP actually wants, then....

TD-05 16g, 90 degree inlet and Z4 ecu.

Might have a 16g on it any way, think some early wagons had them, so have a look.

Easier to see with the inlet manifold off, but to give you an idea to identify the turbo.

Right.

As listed above you'll need those mods (and the remap) to make it worthwhile fitting the TD05. This is because the OEM TMIC and 380cc injectors will pretty much llimit you to around 280bhp regardless... which your existing TD04L can get up to, anyway!

As said, if you get those mods/remap, you'll should see 320-350bhp on the TD05!

Yes, I think the Z4's map is designed around the TD05 and not the TD04. You should get about 250-260bhp as that ECU is rated at 260PS.

Hi, the early cars, such as yours can't be mapped, without fitting an after market ecu, or mappable board such as the ESL Live.
If fitting the TD05, make sure you change the ecu as above, the Z4.
You can then chip this ecu if you like, to get a bit more, with a polar performance ecu or similar.
Only other thing is the exhaust, and filter. Keep your standard airbox, and fit a decent panel filter, these prove to be better than many induction kits.
These mods should see you 280+ bhp.
Cost? You could get all the above second hand for £3-400, even less if you get some bargains!

If you start playing with 550cc injectors, you'll need a proper mappable ecu, as the fueling will be way off.

Yes. It runs a map designed around UK 97 RON (specifically, Esso Supreme) and has lots of headroom on the fuelling/AFRs. A better option, in my opinion, than the Z4. You quite often see 2nd hand 4-plug ECUs with the chip/board already installed for around £80.... just swap out your existing ECU and enjoy...

BTW, no value in sticking in 550 (or 440cc) injectors, unless you intend on going FMIC. The existing 380cc injectors can cope with around 280+ bhp -- which is pretty much all the TMIC can manage, unfortunately!
