Default LAMBDA?

Hi guys,
Iv got a 1995 sti import (redtop)

its just failed the mot BADLY on emissions, apparently 6 or 7 times over the limit. they even tested it 3 times and the 3rd test was a 3min fast idle.

its running a bit rough off boost and is idling very slightly high and has a very slight misfire, it seems to be flying through fuel aswell.

the guy at the garage said could be the CAT but iv seen conflicting things on the forums, most common response is the lambda sensor needs replacing but ive even heard people saying the headgasket maybe failing?

any advice would be greatly appreciated before i buy something i dont need, thanks

Does sound like the lambda is at fault. When was it last changed and what mileage has it done since?. It would be worth doing a fault check with your ecu, that should tell you straight off. I had similar issues with mine and had 75k on the clock(lambda never changed). Changing it was pretty cheap and solved the problems.
