its a direct bolt on if the compressor housing are the same, i think they changed from a 90deg angle to straight circa '98
you will only see you car is driving leaner and therefore will need a remap.
if both turbos are running 18PSI the TD05 will be pushing more compressed air and more, however you have not told the ECU to put more fuel in so more air and standard fuel into the engine its then running lean

I take it you have a 1994 WRX Wagon then? 'Cause if a saloon, the turbo IS a TD05H.
Cheapest way to be 'safe' would be to fit the 90-deg inlet TD05 and a WRX saloon's ECU. The Z4 is the one that apparently works best and with higher target boost. It's rated at 260PS (256bhp).
Or try to get hold of a 2nd hand PP-chipped ECU for around the £80 mark - even safer fuelling/timing and designed around UK 97 RON.

You should be able to see a load of cast writng on the ally compressor cover... the lowest line of it should begin "TD05H...". If it reads "TD04L..." then someone must've fitted the smaller turbo from a JDM Wagon (seeing as yours is a JDM saloon).
