AP, Alcon, Brembo, K-Sport or Porsche Brakes HELP im confused!
Ive been looking into getting a new set of front brakes for my MY03 STi but Im completely confused with the options available and the wildly different prices?
Why is there such a huge difference between say the K-Sports/D2 setup compared to the others? If you look at the disc sizes, number of pistons etc etc they all look quite similar so Im interesed to know what the differences are and peoples own experiences with each kit.
I know brakes are not somthing to scrimp on and I dont consider the k-sports "cheap" but I also dont want to end up having to buy twice if they are no good or have long term issues.
Thanks in advance.

I think what upgrade to pick depends on what you intend to use the car for..?
With regards to the varying cost of brake kits...
Although they may all have similar size discs and the same number of pistons per caliper this does not necessarily mean they are the same.
Caliper design (mono block, two piece, equal bore, differential bore etc) and disc material/design will all vary.
Meaning they will perform differently. You get what you pay for.
As said, I it depends on the use of the car and your budget..!

Don't have any experience of K Sports but they seem really popular and highly rated. However, I don't think they have dust seals so this might be a consideration if your car is a regular daily driver (especially in UK winters ).
Don't think you can go far wrong with AP's, very popular, excellent stock etc. I've been running Porsche brakes with Pagid blacks for a few years now and cannot fault them... there is more braking power than you will ever need and fade is a thing of the past
I've not known anyone running Brembo GT brakes but they are super-expensive, something like £3k

The car will be a daily driver so they need to be reliable and not requiring regular maintainance, so I assume that rules the K-sports out?
What disc/pad combo are you using on the porsche setup? Am I right in thinking that the Porsche calipers are made by Brembo anyway? Porsche have always been highly regarded as having the best OEM brakes on the market so its no supprise they are good!!

They run on standard AP 355 bells/discs so spares aren't an issue. I run on Pagid blacks which are perfect for road use and last ages. I also have a set of Yellows for the Ring etc. However, I wouldn't run Yellows daily as they will eat the discs. For £2k I don;t think there is anything better IMHO.
