Default bottom end or not???

hi everyone i need some help, i have a my96 sti and it has i rattle at around 3-4k revs it does not make a sound on tick over but when revved it makes a rattle/knock between 3-4k revs and then fades out and is fine at top end revs. recently the cam belt snapped but being interference free engines i thought it couldnt damage anything?? dont know if that makes a difference or not though? any help is appreciated, thanks brad

3 to 4 k revs say on throttle not speeding up or slowing down you can hear it rattle???? yes thats prob bottom end my shells were knacked wen i took it apart as it had spun a bearing mine did it between 2.5 k and 3k revs and if you blip the throttle from under bonnet you can get it to do it too...sounds a bit like a diesel engine type knock sound
and if youve snapped a t belt then your lucky its runing at all
