Default Quick gearbox question

The current front diff in my STi2 decided it was time to give up the ghost, so rather than trying to find someone who was splitting a front diff from the gearbox, I decided to get a complete gearbox, front diff, propshaft and rear diff from a STi5.

My question is this....
When I swap the gearbox's round, my mate has told me that I will have to "shim" the replacement (whatever that means) to get it to fit... Is this true or is it just a straight fit??

Thanks in advance
Marcus

In fairness to your mate, is it possible he'd got the wrong end of the stick? If, for example, you'd suggested to him replacing the broken diff in your existing 'box, this would have involved setting the backlash (although on an Impreza front diff it's done by turning the bearing carriers, the rear diffs are shimmed).

The significant part is going from a TY752 to a 754 casing. You should be okay with your old starter but IIRC you may need to thread the block for the bolts. Sure Search will give you what you need.
