First Scooby
Hello folks.
Yesterday I became the proud owner of my first Subaru Impreza. It's a 1999 (s) plate Wagon, 85k with full S/H. No knocks or smoke. Bodywork needs tidying (rear door and quarter been repaired badly) but apart from that it seems ok. Is there anything you guy's would do first like a service or should I get the bodywork sorted. I have noticed the temp gauge rises quite quickly but then stays at the halfway mark. Is this normal? Also have a squeek from the O/S rear which seems to go when braking. Sorry if these questions are basic but I come from the Renault 5 GT Turbo gang and those things are so simple to fix.
Cheers.
Simon.

temperature gauge is a normal thing so dont worry i no a garage in essex that would give it a health check for next to nothing.rear pads might be low.i would do service as its no good having a nice looking car if it dont run right,i would do timing belt first then plugs, air filter, oil change, then general check over of the brakes.a timing belt is only good for 30,000 miles or 3 years.

Good advice there. Also make sure you use a genuine Subaru oil filter and sump plug washer when you do the oil change & make sure you prime the oil filter first with as much oil as it can take(leave it stand between fillings).
I wouldn't bother if I was you....do a search on this site and you will find plenty of free workshop manual's (printable) that will be more than enough info for you. And theres always someone on here willing to help out when you get stuck too which is great
EDIT; just noticed your in Wiltshire....what jap garage is near you? I'd go to API Impreza if I was you because there one of they BEST in the country and shouldn't be far from you. Love that place and David's so helpful
