Default Roll Cage... Bolt-in or Weld-in

Hi guys.... just after abit of advice and opinions, will be purchasing a roll cage in the very near future!

Should I go for the Bolt-in, OMP, FIA approved cage

or

Spacro, weld-in, FIA approved cage?

I have always thought that weld in is better/safer and I do prefer that the Sparco one goes behind the dash and not foul the front of the dash like the OMP one does... but then again the OMP one would do me and would be easier to fit as well as having the advantage of being removed if I want to put it in a different shell.

I will be attempting to fit both myself... (with the help of my old man whos pretty good with a welder)... Am I taking to much on with a full weld-in one? Car will be used for track days, sprints... and maybe the Nippon challenge subaru cup.

Thanks for any help,
Gaz

As you say, welded is better... but unless you turn it into an out-and-out racer, with no roadcar duties, I'd defo go for the easily reversable bolt-in route. It'll still give you decent protection in competion, as well as adding more than enough extra saftey for the road anyway! So:-

- Competion car only (NO road use) = welded Sparco.
- Comp/road dual-purpose car = bolt-in OMP.

Weld in are loads bettter, but an absolute bitch to fit. For a start both front and rear screens will have to come out and all the doors off to give you working room.

Unless you are truly competant you dont even want to attempt a weld in as it will result in a poor fitting expensive mistake.

Bolt ins are a doddle to fit in comparison.

Cheers guys...

Im sort of in that dilema as I want to go all out and have the best so I dont have to do it all again in the future but have to keep reminding myself I dont have enough money lol

I think your right that for my use a bolt-in would be fine and I dont really have the best set-up to prep for a full weld in if im honest... didnt realise you had to take the front and rear windows out either, so cheers 172sport for the heads up

I put this one in my old pug rally car,

I took the roof skin off too, to fit it and replace it with a non sunroof version.

Probs only need to take the front screen out in reality, just me being a little ott.
Now if you where to send it off to be done, they would want a bare shell........

So can you get bolt in roll cages which keeps all the seats usable? Can you get bolt in cages where u can remove the front head height bars between track events without too much hassle?
