Default Help with identifying engine...

Hi there, just bought myself a 94 wrx, I have an oil leak from the drivers side which I thought was RCG leaking; so went to Subaru and gave them vehicle details etc. However, the gaskets they supplied for the vehicle details don't match what came off the engine.
The covers have got 4-cam on them so I figure I have a legacy engine, does anyone know where the engine number on the engine should be as I would like to get the right bits in future! Also, still have the leak even though I now have the correct gaskets, any more ideas as the leak still looks like it is coming from the bottom back bolt area on the drivers RCG? Anyone.......

i had the same problem with mune it was the half moon shape piece of gasket, also the rubber shrouds around the bolts are common for leaking. take the bolt out wait for the oil to stop runnung out and put some sealeant round the bolt this should sort the problem out.

I replaced all the bolt gaskets when I did it, is there anywhere else around there that it could be leaking from?? Driving me crazy....

Early Legacy's will have a two bolt coil pack on them - Impreza's have a single bolt.
Use Grey 3 Bond on the half moons, gaskets and bolts seals - cures it every time.

what are these half moon things, I couldn't see these on it-where should they be? It is the early engine with the 2 bolt packs as you said.

The half moons are at the back of the heads. Directly behind the cam shafts basically.

In this picture you can see them at the bottom of the head with all that red sealer on them.

Kewl, thanks for the pic, makes it much easier to understand! Spent a bit of time on it today, found the cause of the leak is the oil feed pipe which you can just see in your picture. It either needs tightening or the washers replacing-not looking forward to trying to do it tommorrow as it's a bugger to get to!
Incidentally, are the half moon bits meant to be made of rubber? Only asking as I didn't notice them till today but they are metal on mine, should they be?

It could be a possibility but its the first i've heard of metal half moons.

Maybe Mick or one of the other guys may know?

You sure its not just gone hard and possibly been sprayed? Could you put a pic up?

I'll try to get some pics today and get them on, sure they are metal though.
