Some advise needed . As I left work a few days ago I noticed a slight clunking noise when engaging 3rd gear and a slight tapping noise when driving in all other gears. As I progressed the noise in 3rd gear gradually worsened and in the end it sound like someone had thrown a tin of ball bearings into the gearbox everytime I was in 3rd gear and still the ticking noise in all other four gears.
I drive a 95 wrx but as per previous owner the car is running a later spec 1999 gearbox,STI thrust bearing and quickshift. Now my problem is if the gearbox bearings have gone and the gearbox need replacing do I go for the same year STI gearbox or revert back to an original wrx 95 spec box or would this not tie in with the STI thrust bearing/quickshift . Sorry I'm new to this and. Don't want to waste unecessary money when I don't need to
Any help greatly appreciated guys
Thanks

The quick shift will fit on any box.
Dont know what you mean by "STI thrust bearing"
A good box to fit would be TY755VN1AA, i have one in mine its a little bit of an upgrade as its stronger than the original.
All thats assuming you still have the original rear diff fitted (4.111)

Just googled, no it's not. Your TY755 is a Forrester box.
I thought it was good bet and its had a damn sight easier life than in an impreza........
Drops straight in with a tweek to the starter mounting. Plus has an oil cooler as std

And is compatable with 4.111 rear diff.

yes to a point, the only prob you will have is the starter motor, late models use a very long bolt to go into the engine block on both fixings. On early models one of the fixings stays on the box.
Thats about the only real prob....
I tapped the gearbox housing and used a bigger bolt to hold the starter on.

Got to drill the lower hole on the starter out also, well I had to when I replaced my starter motor.
