Default overheating problems

Hi everyone...

i've read as much as i can from other forums, but i'd like thoughts on my 2001 classic turbo's symptoms...

After a good drive on dual carriage-ways for about 25 mins, the car maintains normal temp, as soon as i get back into town and traffic, the temp guage goes right to the top and stays there until i start moving again...

Heaters are pumping out hot air when switched on - seems fine.

The small tank in front of the battery is bubbling away - last night you could hear it from inside the car...Although the car isn't losing water and there's no white gunk on the oil cap...

Is this an HG failure of an air gap in the system - apart from that i love this car...

Appreciate your help...

i would also like to know this, suffering similar symptoms.

overflow in front of battery bubbling , my question is,

if it is head gasket failure would the car not run rough,
mine runs as normal

cant give you a positive diagnosis but if the overflow tank in front of the battery is filling and bubbling, the system is over pressurising and blowing the cap. if its only in traffic check to see if the fan is cutting in. also make sure both top and bottom radiator hoses are similar temperature. if bottom is cold suspect thermostat

I have been having this problem on MY96 since I changed my engine and radiator. So I had changed my thermostat to an uprated one, but still bubbles away when parked. It is as if the temp sensor doesn't think the water is hot enough to kick in the fans???
I'm going to refit radiator, have a look at water pump and then the sensor wiring......let you know how I get on.

Default THANKS

i would appreciate that,

i have also changed my engine about 3k miles ago.

i am pretty sure the bubbling coolant is a new problem,
so im thinkin i might change my rad to see if that solves it?

my thermostat works, rad top and bottom hoses are both hot.
the heaters work. fans kick in, no oil in coolant, can't see any coolant in oil.

very tiny amount of white smoke on startup but none noticable once warmed up. but every time i pull up from driving home from work and pop
the bonnet the coolant is bubbling away in overflow bottle. it doesn't overflow except on the one occasion when i t overheated and spilled its load alll over the pavement.

it seems for all intents and purposes to run fine, If it is head gasket then what other symptoms are likely to appear in the near future as i am still driving it daily

i thought i'd share my experience, so other people can learn...turned out to be a head gasket failure; blowing past both gaskets. The heads needed skimming, new cam shaft etc...nightmare!

A big shout out to Norm and his mechanics at autobmc for doing the work...
