Without knowing what model year your car is and what MY the donor turbo is, we can only say "probably". Assuming both your car and the new turbo are MY97 and onwards then it'll physically fit in.

and what is the difference, would i see alot of gain?
We can't answer that without knowing what specific model the new turbo is, and without, as mentioned above, knowing exactly what it is going into. However, whatever potential gains are there will only be realised via a remap and, probably, other supporting mods. If you just drop it in and go you're more likely to see less power, not more, and reduced throttle response too.

The car will start without a remap but how it will drive is anyone's guess. Chances are it'll either be worse than it is at the moment, or, depending on how the cards fall, might damage your engine.

94 jap sti turbo will be at a guess the TD05H ..mine is anyways so assume it has too.. so is urs a TD05H or a TD04????

the sti will probably be usin a SA ECU...not sure what urs again is using? urs might hav a Z4 Ecu not as gud as an SA ECU..why not check and get both..

TD05H approx £100 second hand
SA ECU Approx £150 second hand

1) If the OP's 96 UK Wagon is late MY96, then, bizzarely, it'll have a top-entry TD05H 16g anyway. Will obviously be a straight swap... but no upgrade will have happened!

2) If it's an early MY97, then it'll be a front-entry TD04! So you'd have to chop off the donor T.E. TD05's 'snorkel' for it to be able to fit the MY97 front entry intake hose. Would need a Z4 ECU to be appropriate (and have 260PS)... Or, even better, the v.2 STi 275PS ECU - is it a U6 or U9?

I think you'd have to swap the cam and crank sensors ECU pin-outs around too.
